1.1.10 / HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2009 we rolled with the punches and came out on top. Now it's 2010 and well, things are on the up and up. Expecting big things this twenty ten.

2009 will not be missed.  However, we did manage to squeak out a few successes stories.

1) Andy Love and Carrie Locke's wedding

2) Added Medicines Global, Sages Way, Nelsen Outdoors, Slow Bar, Blodgett Dental and 2Planks to our roster of beloved clients

3) Steve had a mini ramp in his backyard for a month.

4) Mr. Love’s dream of one day owning a 1979 Rhodes Suitcase Electric Piano came true. Tone to the bone.

5) Drew got his 1969 Land Cruiser up and running.

6) Big Steve's visit to the Generation office.

7) Boldly survived the marketing slump of 2009

8) Andy took the glory outta Johnny Chic's sails by crushing him in long battle of squash. (yes thats their real names and the have been friends forever)

Hope this finds you well in 2010! Cheers!

12.09.09 / GC NOTE WIN

NER!

AND THE WINNER IS....

The Generation Creative GC Note end of year drawing took place earlier this week. With a pull from the hat of participating clients, JANICE BELSON from MEDICINES GLOBAL is the proud winner of $1000 in free creative time and brilliance.

It was a succesful drawing for two reasons:

1) Janice is a ridiculously nice lady.

2) We really enjoy supporting Janices helpful efforts and what Medicines Global does for people around the globe.

Thanks to everyone who participated. The next drawing will be July 1st 2010. Spend your notes for a chance to win!

11.17.09 / CORNDOGGIN

The office has been getting busier over the last few weeks with new clients, jobs and commotion. All very good things for us over here. One came in earlier this week, a redesign of the National Corndog Day logo. It doesn't get much better than this. Greasey food and mouse clicking, with a dash of more greasey food. Thanks to Jones Soda for thinking of us!

09.29.09 / SUMMER ONO

Andy Love (aka all things GC office) is playing a show with his band SUMMER ONO at the SOMEDAY LOUNGE in Portland this Saturday. If you have never heard them get down, either check out there tunes online or if your in the immediate area stop by for a drink and take in some serious face melting melodies.

08.31.09 / SUMMERS END

Summer is officially almost over. This nice enjoyable Portland weather is about to turn upside down and start dumping buckets, but this isn't all bad. It gives us here at Generation more mouse time and preperation for the upcoming snow season. A few of the items we designed for Atomic made it into the 2010 Ski Magazine Buyers Guide. The Renu boot, Nomad Savage and the Smoke.

Lets start thinking cold weather and cocoa.

08.26.09 / GC FLOWER POWER

GC flower power! The wildflowers are coming in nicely. Send us photos of your GC flowers and we might just send you something back.

07.28.09 / JONES DELIVERED

Jones sent us a few photos of the new rruck wrap we designed. This trailer is somewhere down in southern California bringing Jones to thirsty mouths.

The best part about this wrap is that we shot everything in office. All the bottles were at one point at an angle either in my hands about to be dropped, or perched up on a rigged little sytem. For the large bottle we had to get the fluid just right, then go in and make it look as if the fluid is really bouncing around on the highways at 65 mph.

Let's just say we had some photoshop fun.

07.28.09 / OR TRADESHOW

Drew flew down to Salt Lake City for the OR TRADESHOW last week.  Generation had a big hand in the new Chums booth design.  It looked pretty fantastic.  Chums also unveiled their new packaging designs that we did with them.  It’s great to see the work come to life.

Thanks to everyone over at  CHUMS and James for the production side of things.

07.28.09 / BIKE RIDES

The Seattle to Portland Bike Ride took place a few weeks back. We designed some biking jerseys for a few brave Jones Soda riders. 2009 had around 10,000 participants, which goes through around 4 tons of watermelon. Fun fact.

The STP event has been around for more than 25 years and is around 200 miles. Quite the ride. Congrats to the Jonsers who took on the challenge. Thanks for the image Josh!

07.21.09 / ANDY GETS MARRIED!

You heard it right! Andy our office manager guru has tied the knot with his lovely all print knowing fiance Carrie. We are very happy here at Generation and wish them years of love and happy days. They got married about 3,000 miles away from us here in Portland in a little romantic place called Maine, you might have heard of it.

We won't call you Andy, we promise!

07.09.09 / WEBSITE

Free Soda Friday! This is what the Jonsers had to say:

13 lucky years ago, an offbeat soda company started handing out free soda every Friday. People from all over Seattle started coming to Jones Soda Headquarters to kick off their weekend with an ice-cold Jones. It became so popular in the South lake Union neighborhood that we decided to bring Free Soda Friday to a store near you.

Sounds like a deal and we all like a solid deal. Get to your local JONES station and pick one up.

06.24.09 / JONES GABA

Cool down with a cooler full of Jones Gaba!

The coolers we designed came out looking real nice, it's making us thirsty.

06.11.09 / DREWS 40TH ANNUAL BIRTHDAY

Happy 40th Drew Smith. A proud cheers to our fearless leader.

Drews in Florida, but we wish him well from the office floor. We dropped the IMPACT typeface as an extra gift for Drew.

05.26.09 / MEMORIAL DAY

A long weekend to remember those who gave their lives for this country. Incredible stories of both loss and hope from WWI all the way to today in IRAQ.

We here at Generation are extremely thankful.

05.11.09 / GC CARE KIT

The new Generation Promotional Kits have dropped into our mailing system. Be on the look out for a white envelope with your name on it.

 Contents include:

GC Notes - $100 dollars of free Creative time from us here at GC

NW Wildflower Seeds Pack - Ed Hume supported Northwest wildflowers.

Plant Identifier Card / Stake - For easy identification and explanation

Inspirational Card - Keep things on the up and up.

All in all, a fun gesture from us to say hello and stay in touch. Plant some design ideas along with some flowers, then watch them both grow with us.

03.31.09 / SHANE MCCONKEY

On March 26, 2009, Shane McConkey was killed while skiing in the Dolomite Mountains in Italy.

Our thoughts and cares go out to the McConkey faimly.

03.24.09 / MEETINGS, MOVEMENTS and MORE

Drew (above) has been getting his hands dirty in brainstorms and concepts, as you can tell. There are three clients of ours somehow involved in this photo, if you can name all three, let us know and well give you a sticker or something fancy.

Some amazingly fun projects have been in and out of the shop over the past few months. Jones has just launched a new beverage called JONES GABA  and another thats on hush hush terms. We will post when it's unclassiifed. Thanks again to the JONES crew for letting us participate creatively.

03.16.09 / DREW'S DROP

March 10th – Ski Bowl, PDX: Some said it was ‘the BEST’ day of the winter thus far. Being a near virgin to the Portland area ski areas, I was not sure who or what stories to believe. We’re these guys just drinking their own cool-aid, or simply smoking the right stuff? All I know is I arrived at 2:50 p.m., 10 minutes before opening that day, and it had snowed for 2 days straight. What soon unfolded (with the grace of the boys still pounding pavement at the office) was a welcome mat of untracked, perfectly deep and feather light pow. Just to think - all friends had to ‘bail at the last minute’ and I was left to a playground I could soon call my own.

Still uncertain to the terrain (and skiing solo), I hooked with Jason by chance in line. Jason had been riding all day at meadows and made the transition to ski bowl for the afternoon shred session. As he was likewise solo (hooking with cronies later that night), we joined forces and proceeded to play. And play hard! It was not until the drive back, while recapping the session with those friend whom had not made it up, that I realized what a day we had, in  fact, just experienced. The main indicator – “Drew’s Drop”. Labeled by jason and later solitified by 2 ski bowl veterans, this became the gauge of the day. A modest 25 – 30 foot drop, it is the biggest hit on the front face of the bowl. Apparently, there is RARELY enough snow to ‘hit it’. Alas, we we’re buttering it all afternoon. Ignorance is bliss...as a wise man once said. So are fat powder dayz!

03.06.09 / BLAZERS WILL GO!

Well, Generation has a hand in the score for the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden . No no, were not fixing games for the Blazers , were designing advertising for Jones. Were also pluggin some of our own advertising to match.

For all you Blazer , Clyde Drexler, Bill Walton , red and white, and overall great logo design fans, hold on to your shorts! Blazer Glory!

02.16.09 / GC VEGAS VIDEO RELEASE

Watch out folks, GC has put together a clip of fine moments from the Sia show in Vegas in celebration of the Atomic Renu success. Check out our Youtube site for generation.

THE END OF AN ERA!

and an oldy but a goodie.

HOT DOGGIN

02.12.09 / BACK FROM VEGAS

The last Vegas SIA show was a success. We received great feedback on our work, clients booths were busy, and we didn't lose that much money at the tables.

All in all a great show. The annual Vegas trip will be missed by many, and that definetly includes us here at Generation.

 See you in Denver!

02.09.09 / BEST IN SHOW!

Over the trip to Vegas we got some great news from our friends at Atomic. Our Renu ski boots won the best in show ISPO ECO RESPONSIBILITY AWARD in Germany. Alot of this has to do with great material usage from Atomic but we are proud to take the look and feel to the next level for them, all in the name of a great cause. It's a win win. 80% of the Renu boot is made from renewable raw materials which are also recyclable. Grab a pair this coming season, mother earth will appreciate it.

01.27.09 / VIVA LAS VEGAS

Team G got laid up in this little suite last January for SIA. Quite the veiw.

We are shipping out tomorrow to go pay respects to the ones we work with and:

1. shoot some product we worked so hard on.

2. enjoy the last SIA show in Sin City.

3. maybe play a little at the tables.

Also check out our updated work section!

01.26.09 / Hestra Glove Giveaway

If your visiting SIA this 2009 Season, pop on bye the Hestra gloves booth and have a seat.

01.21.09 / CHUMS PARTY

Come one come all. Free beer, good people and did we mention, free beer?

01.19.09 / ATOMIC DELIVERS

Big thanks goes out to ATOMIC for getting us the gear we need to hit the hill. It's a great feeling to hold product from a client you stand by and work hard for. Thanks again Jordan.

01.07.09 / HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year! 2009 is upon us. I hope yours has started out better than this Vail patron below. I think I would actually try to endure the fall before everybody’s camera phone exposed me to the world, but I hope it never ever comes to that.

Take Care.

10.16.08 / Hestra Poster

Posters from Hestra that we had a large hand in. Also thanks to Scott Howard for Illustration techniques and Adam Levey for a keen photographic eye and one hell of a photograph.

It's getting a bit busier here in the new shop. Feels good. Take Care.

9.15.08 / New Creative Space

The new office is coming together really nicely. Were still unpacking and getting everything squared away. We will miss those food carts downtown or as we call them "excuses for not packing lunches", but we are all really excited about the new space. The view and lighting are excellent. Back to work.

8.8.08 / Moving

Thats right. The GC crew are moving across the river to a new creative space. The other day we were appreciationg the weather before it leaves us and had a good old fashioned bike ride to the new spot to lay some plans to the space. The new building is directly behind us a swim away. We will keep you updated on the arrival.

6.20.08 / Looking Good.

We don't just create over here at generation. We dress nice, eat fancy food, and we arn't bad to look at either. That all came to a screeching halt today when we got a sneak peak into the hotest design group out there. Great genes need to compliment your resume when applying to this joint. DESIGNER SLASH MODEL .

 Have a good laugh.

5.19.08 / JONES

Here at Generation we pride ourselves with working with really innovative and just damn fun clients. One of these is JONES SODA CO.

Now if you never heard of them you:

A)    Love high fructose corn syrup.
B)    Don’t “enjoy creating some change” or “running with the little guy”.
C)    Might be dead.

Jones is a great alternative soda company that has really come along way since 1987 and will be making soda pop a more enjoyable experience for years to come.

We love working with them and helping them provide pure cane soda all over the globe.

The latest from Generation for the Jones crew was a Variety Pack Shrink Wrap. Jonesy!

04.18.08 / CANADA

Drew's in whistler with the Atomic crew scheming on the 09/10 ski and boot designs. Oh Canada, your bacon is so much tastier then ours. Meanwhile Steve and I are trying to get some juice going on the G-spot. It's been neglected for far too long. Come back soon!
